RaceMenu Acquires Mobile App Developer TapWalk

Deal Accelerates Next-Generation Mobile Solutions for Race Directors

BOSTON (May 23, 2017) – RaceMenu, a leading endurance event software company, today announced the acquisition of Boston-based mobile app development company TapWalk. The move follows the recent sale of RaceMenu’s race timing division, bolstering the company’s commitment to focusing on innovative software solutions for the endurance events industry. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

“With the sale of our timing division and the acquisition of TapWalk, RaceMenu is now focused on our mobile payments software,” said J. Alain Ferry, RaceMenu Founder & CEO. “We’ve worked with TapWalk’s product for years and have always appreciated its broad capabilities. This move strengthens our product and team, and dramatically accelerates our product pipeline.”

Founded in 2010 by David Owens, TapWalk allows event coordinators and venue operators to rapidly deploy and instantly update custom, white-label mobile applications. As part of the acquisition, Owens joins RaceMenu as Chief Technology Officer. He will lead development of RacedayPRO, RaceMenu’s new business-to-consumer (B2C) mobile payments app for event organizers.

Both Ferry and Owens hail as past finalists and mentors in the MassChallenge start-up competition. “As a runner, I recognized RaceMenu’s brand when they joined the MassChallenge Accelerator in 2011,” Owens said. “TapWalk was an alumni team that year, and Alain’s focus on mobile technologies created instant synergy between our teams. We were excited to help RaceMenu launch its first version of Raceday, and joining their team is a great opportunity to build upon our past success working together.”

TapWalk’s local client list includes the Boston Children’s Museum, Massachusetts Convention Center Authority, The Boston Globe, and the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce. The RaceMenu team will continue to maintain TapWalk’s existing customer relationships while pursuing new mobile opportunities in the run-walk-ride event space.
